Johan De Houwer is a European & Dutch Patent Attorney at Gevers. With a strong background in (organic) chemistry, Johan supports clients in developing robust and strategically aligned intellectual property portfolios.
Before joining Gevers, Johan worked at Arnold & Siedsma from 2021 onwards, advising both academic and industrial clients on patent protection and strategy. Before that, he contributed to the sustainable transformation of the Flemish chemicals and plastics sector during his time at Catalisti, where he coordinated subsidized innovation projects involving companies and research institutions.
Johan also brings industrial experience from Xeikon, where he gained hands‑on exposure to preparing and defending patent applications from a company’s point of view. This allows him to combine technical expertise with a practical, commercially oriented perspective.
Driven by analytical curiosity, Johan works closely with clients to define the most effective IP strategy. He thrives on tackling complex technical challenges and is never deterred by intricate matters, whether scientific puzzles or demanding Markush formulas.
