Claire is an European Patent Attorney. She also holds the University Diploma in European Patent Litigation.
Prior to joining Gevers, Claire Bernstein spent three years in charge of Intellectual Property at the proteomics company Hybrigénics, before working for six years in the International Industrial Property Department of the L’Oréal Group.
Today, she is in charge of patent files and litigation, particularly in the fields of Biology, Biotechnology, Cosmetology, Pharmaceuticals and Food.
Claire works on the protection of a wide range of inventions in the field of skin and hair biology (identification of various targets for the screening of cosmetic or therapeutic active ingredients, skin and reconstructed epidermis models… ), the protection of cosmetic and dermatological active ingredients and plant extracts (protection of new families of molecules or new extracts, their synthesis/extraction processes, or new cosmetic uses or second therapeutic applications), and their cosmetic and dermatological formulation for both oral and cutaneous use (new galenic formulations).
This management activity includes conducting patentability studies, drafting patent applications, monitoring their examination before various national patent offices, defending or contesting European patents in opposition and appeal proceedings, conducting oral examination and opposition proceedings before the European Patent Office; lastly, this activity also includes conducting freedom-to-operate and validity studies on patent applications or third-party patents, and providing assistance with negotiations.
